According to a report from Yahoo Finance, a notable rotation has occurred in investment markets at the start of the year. Investors have moved away from technology and growth stocks, which had been primary wealth drivers in prior years, and into other asset categories. These include value stocks, dividend-paying equities, international markets, and small-cap companies.

While the S&P 500 index remains below its peak, certain market segments have seen strong performance and significant capital inflows in the current year. For some investors, diversified portfolios are now yielding better results than those concentrated in large technology companies.

SPDR Gold MiniShares ETF

The SPDR Gold MiniShares ETF is a lower-cost alternative to a larger institutional gold fund and is considered a clearer gauge of retail investor activity. This fund has attracted substantial investment this year and over the preceding twelve months.

Recent strength in gold is attributed partly to safe-haven demand but more significantly to purchasing by central banks. A weakening dollar and systemic concerns are viewed as structural factors that may support long-term demand.

Invesco S&P 500 Equal Weight ETF

The Invesco S&P 500 Equal Weight ETF offers exposure to the S&P 500 index without a heavy concentration in its largest components. Its methodology assigns an equal weight to each company, which drastically alters the fund’s sector allocation compared to the market-cap-weighted index.

This results in a significantly lower allocation to the technology sector and higher allocations to sectors including industrials, financials, and healthcare. The fund’s profile is marketed as a way to mitigate concentration risk.

Analysts suggest that despite recent gains, some of these investment categories may still be in the early phases of a longer-term recovery.
