Air India Hikes Airfares With Fuel Surcharge

Transcript

The West Asia conflict has not just disrupted air travel, it has also made it expensive, hitting the customers. Pocket prices already surged once demand outpaces supply. But last week I had reported that ticket prices could rise, particularly due to airlines facing higher fuel and insurance costs. Now that warning is turning into reality. The Air India Group has taken the lead, announcing A phased fuel surcharge levy across domestic and international routes because of the steep rise in jet fuel prices. Airline says operating flights without this church surcharge is becoming unsustainable. He hears her fares will increase for Air India flights in phase one from March 12th. Domestic and Sark roots will have 399 more as surcharge. Southeast Asia fuel surcharges increased from $40 to $60.00. On African Roots, fuel surcharge will increase from $60 to $90.00. In phase two that starts from 18th March. European Roots will see fuel surcharge go up from $100. $225 North America fuel surcharge will go up from $150.00 to $200 and Australia will see fuel surcharge go up from $150.00 to $200.00. So that’s how airfares will increase. A third phase for markets like Hong Kong, Japan and South Korea will be announced soon. And remember, fuel isn’t the only pressure. Insurance premiums for flights operating around the conflict zone have also shot up sharply, adding 10s of lakhs to operating costs per flight. Now, all of this means one thing. Airfares are likely to rise across airlines and across multiple routes in the coming weeks. And if the other airlines follow Air India’s move, passengers could soon feel the impact on ticket prices globally.
