Gold Price Weekly Gain: Market Eyes Iran Talks, Inflation Data | 2026 – News and Statistics

According to Bloomberg, gold is positioned for a third weekly gain. The precious metal steadied near $4,760 an ounce on Friday, heading for an almost 2% weekly increase.

Market attention is turning to weekend negotiations in Islamabad involving a US delegation and Iranian officials. The current President of the United States expressed optimism about a deal to end the conflict but later issued a threat to Tehran regarding shipping fees. Israeli strikes in Lebanon have also placed a recently agreed ceasefire at risk.

Oil is set for a weekly loss, while a recovery in stocks and a decline in the dollar this week have supported gold. Since the conflict began at the end of February, however, bullion has lost nearly 10% of its value.

The energy supply shock from the conflict has raised inflationary risks, leading traders to anticipate that central banks may delay or reverse interest-rate cuts. This creates a headwind for gold, which does not offer a yield.

An analyst from Capital.com noted that the outlook for gold depends heavily on the trajectory of the war and future inflation. US consumer spending showed minimal growth in February, according to a recent government report. A more current inflation report is expected later on Friday.

Conversely, a prolonged war could slow economic growth and hurt the labor market, potentially justifying lower interest rates. Recent minutes from a Federal Reserve committee meeting indicated officials are weighing these two-sided risks.

Support for gold has also come from continued purchases by major central banks. Poland’s central bank maintains a goal to increase its reserves, while China added a significant amount to its stockpiles in March, marking its largest monthly purchase in over a year.
