New Age | Gold prices falls by Tk 2,216 a bhari in Bangladesh market

The price of gold has declined again on the domestic market, with the rate of 22-carat gold reduced by Tk 2,216 a bhari.
The Bangladesh Jewellers Association announced the revision in a press release on Tuesday, saying that the new prices came into effect from 10:00am on the day.
Under the latest rates, 22-carat gold now sells at Tk 2,44,711 a bhari, 21-carat gold is priced at Tk 2,33,572 a bhari, while 18-carat gold fell to Tk 2,00,213 a bhari.
The traditional method gold price has been reduced to Tk 1,63,063 a bhari.
The previous adjustment was made on April 23, when the price of 22-carat gold was cut by Tk 3,266 a bhari.
A 5 per cent value-added tax will be added to these prices.
Buyers will also have to pay a minimum 6 per cent making charge set by the BAJUS, which may vary depending on the design and quality of jewellery.
Gold has been adjusted 57 times so far in 2026, with rates having been raised 32 times and reduced 25 times.
The latest price drop comes in line with a decline on the global market.
According to a Reuters report, Gold slipped to a more than three-week low on Tuesday, following a rise in oil prices after stalled US-Iran talks, as markets weighed inflation risks and interest-rate concerns ahead of a slew of central bank decisions.
Spot gold dropped 1.6 per cent to $4,605.18 an ounce, as of 1105 GMT, its lowest level since April 6.
US gold futures for June delivery fell 1.6 per cent to $4,619.10.
Data from Goldprice.com showed gold trading at around $4,596 an ounce at the time of filing this report.
Despite the recent dip, gold prices have risen by about $151 dollar an ounce over the past 30 days.
Meanwhile, silver prices in the local market have also been reduced.
The price of 22-carat silver was set at Tk 5,482 a bhari, down Tk 233, while that of 21-carat silver fell by Tk 234 to Tk 5,190 a bhari.
The price of 18-carat silver was reduced by Tk 175 to Tk 4,491 a bhari and traditional-method silver dropped Tk 116 to Tk 3,383 a bhari.
Silver prices have been adjusted 36 times in 2026 to date, up 19 times and down 17 times.
