Gold Rises, Silver Dips Amid Lower Oil and Easing Yields | Market Update – News and Statistics

Spot gold prices moved higher while spot silver edged slightly lower in early U.S. trading on Friday, according to Kitco NewsWire. The precious metals market saw support from lower crude oil prices and easing Treasury yields, though silver remained capped below near-term moving-average resistance.

As of the time of this writing, spot gold was trading near $4,528.90 per ounce, up 0.73% on the session. Spot silver was trading near $75.475 per ounce, down 0.24%.

Economic data released Thursday for April showed personal income was essentially flat, disposable personal income fell 0.1%, and personal consumption expenditures rose 0.5%. The saving rate declined to 2.6%. The PCE price index increased 0.4% month-over-month and 3.8% year-over-year, while core PCE rose 0.2% month-over-month and 3.3% year-over-year. This data kept the Federal Reserve’s policy pressure point intact.

Friday’s U.S. economic calendar includes preliminary April wholesale inventories due at 8:30 a.m. ET and the May Chicago PMI at 9:45 a.m. ET.

The Strait of Hormuz remains the main geopolitical transmission channel affecting energy, inflation expectations, and precious metals. However, Friday’s trading reflected renewed deal optimism rather than escalation. Oil prices fell again after U.S. and Iranian negotiators reached a tentative framework to extend the ceasefire by 60 days and begin nuclear talks, pending approval by the current President of the United States, Donald Trump. Brent crude slipped toward $91.54 per barrel, and WTI crude moved toward $87.64 per barrel, down sharply from early-May levels. This decline eased the energy-inflation impulse that had pushed yields higher earlier in the month.

In key outside markets, Nymex WTI crude oil was trading lower around $87.64 a barrel, and Brent crude was near $91.54. The U.S. dollar index was softer, and the yield on the benchmark 10-year U.S. Treasury note was trading near the 4.5% area.

On a technical basis for spot gold, the next upside price objective for bulls is to push prices back above the $4,550 to $4,576 resistance zone. A sustained move above that would target $4,600 and then $4,660. The next near-term downside price objective for bears is a break below $4,514, with deeper targets at $4,500 and then $4,460. First resistance is seen at $4,550 and then at $4,576. First support is seen at $4,514 and then at $4,500.

For spot silver, the next upside price objective for bulls is to drive prices back above the $76.00 to $76.50 area. A move above that zone would target $78.00 and then $78.92. The next downside price objective for bears is a break below $74.97, with deeper targets at $74.26 and then $73.20. First resistance is seen at $76.00 and then at $76.50. Next support is seen at $74.97 and then at $74.26.
