In a recent precious metals analysis, Jeffrey Christian of CPM Group discussed the gold price outlook, a silver market update, and noted weakness in platinum and palladium. According to Christian, gold is currently testing the $4,100 level, and a break lower could point toward $3,800. Silver, he said, is testing support near the low $60s. He also indicated that any sharp spike lower in gold or silver may be short-lived.

Christian added that new risks are being layered on top of the existing economic, political, social, and financial risks that have supported gold and silver prices over the past several years. He reviewed the new Federal Reserve chairman and the Fed’s shift toward less transparency. Reduced information from central banks, he explained, may increase uncertainty for consumers and investors and make good decision making more difficult.

The presentation also covered topics such as artificial intelligence, misinformation, private equity, private debt, shrinking public markets, opaque valuations, and financing structures that may increase future economic volatility. Christian explained that these risks may be negative for the broader economy but supportive for gold and silver over time.
