As the second quarter of 2026 ended, investors in precious metals experienced one of the most severe corrections seen in decades, according to a market analysis published on July 1, 2026, by Blue Line Futures. Gold declined by more than 14%, marking one of its worst quarterly performances in recent years, while silver suffered a steeper drop, falling over 21% during June alone. This pullback has brought both metals back to price levels not observed since late 2025.

The rally that preceded these highs was described as historic, driven by a Federal Reserve that was cutting interest rates, a weaker U.S. dollar, fiscal concerns, and sustained buying by central banks. However, the analysis notes that the macroeconomic backdrop has shifted over the past six months. A conflict in the Middle East has pushed inflation higher, and a leadership change at the Federal Reserve has resulted in a more hawkish stance under Warsh. Firmer economic data and a reversal of the dollar debasement trade have pushed real yields higher, directing capital toward coupon-bearing assets. Market expectations now include at least one interest rate hike before the end of the year.

Despite the recent downturn, the analysis suggests that both gold and silver are currently resting on long-term support levels, with the path of least resistance appearing to be higher. The inflation outlook is expected to improve, as the worst of the Middle East conflict is likely past and Warsh has openly favored trimmed-average inflation measures, which already show more favorable readings. Market positioning has shifted, with the put-call skew turning positive for the first time in approximately a decade. Economic growth appears to have peaked, which could give the Federal Reserve a reason to ease its policy stance. The analyst’s view is that the Fed will move from hawkish to neutral to dovish rather than actually hiking rates, and even if a hike occurs, it would likely be a single move followed by cuts.

A seasonal tailwind is also noted, with gold historically tending to strengthen from early July into early August, a period that has closed higher more often than not. This window opens as the third quarter begins.

Silver, which experienced a sharper decline, is described as a higher-beta version of the same trade. It fell faster but also tends to lead on the way back up. Industrial demand from solar energy, electronics, and data centers continues to pull against multi-year supply deficits, suggesting silver may have the most ground to recover and the most torque if a recovery occurs.
