Panacea Biotec has announced a significant enhancement to its vaccine supply contract with UNICEF, marking a major development for the pharmaceutical company’s international operations. The contract amendment includes both value increases to existing awards and an additional new award for vaccine supply.

Taro Pharmaceutical Industries, a unit of Sun Pharma, is recalling over 17,000 units of an antifungal medication in the US due to manufacturing issues, according to the US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA). According to its latest Enforcement Report, the US health regulator stated that Hawthorne-based Sun Pharma/Taro is recalling 17,664 units of Ciclopirox Shampoo, an antifungal medication that treats seborrheic dermatitis, a condition that causes dry, flaky, and itchy skin. The company is recalling the affected lot due to “Failed Impurity/Degradation specifications,” the USFDA stated.

A routine current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) inspection was conducted by the United States Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) at the Formulations Facility of Strides Pharma Inc. USA (SPI), a step-down wholly owned subsidiary of Strides Pharma Science Limited, at Chestnut Ridge, New York, USA during the period December 17 to December 23. At the conclusion of the inspection, the US FDA has issued a Form 483 with four observations. These observations are procedural in nature and the company does not anticipate any impact on supply of its commercial products. SPI will respond to these observations comprehensively to the FDA within the stipulated time and is confident of addressing all the observations to the satisfaction of the USFDA.
