Bitcoin Drop Triggers $529 Million in Crypto Futures Liquidations in One Hour

More than $500 million of positions were liquidated in the cryptocurrency futures market over the past hour as Bitcoin prices declined.

BlockBeats and other outlets reported on August 22 that liquidations in the crypto perpetual futures market totaled $529 million during the period. Long positions accounted for about $478 million of the total, while short positions made up about $50.2 million.

By asset, Ether recorded the largest liquidations at $108 million. Bitcoin followed at about $50.9 million, ahead of XRP at about $48 million and Solana at about $47.5 million.

Bitcoin fell from the $78,000 range to the $77,000 range on the day. As of 3:17 p.m. Seoul time, Bitcoin was trading at $77,313.76, up 2.65% from a day earlier, according to CoinMarketCap.
