Soybean Futures Near 3-Year High on Strong Chinese Demand – News and Statistics

Sep 18, 2026

Soybean futures traded above $13.1 per bushel, hovering near their highest level in almost three years, according to Trading Economics. The firm reported that prices are being supported by stronger Chinese demand for US supplies and expectations of additional purchases ahead of high-level talks between the United States and China.

China has already moved past the halfway point of its commitment to buy 25 million metric tons of US soybeans, the source stated. Recent US export sales have remained firm, confirmed at about 1.7 million metric tons, with Chinese demand accounting for the bulk of that activity.

The purchases are taking place before a planned meeting next week between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping. According to the source, the upcoming talks are raising hopes for progress on agricultural trade and the possibility of lower tariffs on US farm goods.

Attention is also fixed on the US harvest, where heavy rains across the Midwest have slowed fieldwork in some areas. The source noted that this could offer near-term support to prices.

Brazil’s 2026/27 crop is likewise in focus as planting begins. Forecasts point to another record harvest, though the source indicated that growth is expected to be modest.
