Woman says a political canvasser stole an Amazon package from her porch

SAGADAHOC COUNTY, Maine (WMTW) – A Maine woman said a political canvasser stole an Amazon package containing running shoes from her front porch, and the entire incident was captured on doorbell video.

“I had to watch the video a couple of times just to make sure I see what I saw,” Marion Cressey said.

The knock Cressey’s home heard at her door was normal during any political campaign season – one from a canvasser just doing his job.

“He was knocking on the door just like they do, and he just kept looking around,” Cressey said.

Instead of only leaving behind the usual door tag, the canvasser took an Amazon package that had been delivered earlier in the day.

“He all of a sudden just bent over and snatched it and ran down my walkway and sped off,” Cressey said.

The package contained a pair of Asics running shoes that Cressey ordered.

The canvasser was later identified as working with Stronger Maine, a conservative political action group campaigning for Sen. Susan Collins.

Cressey shared the security camera footage on Facebook. She said politics do not matter in this situation; she simply wanted to warn her neighbors.

“It’s scary. It really is. I mean, you feel violated having this person do this to you or to any of your neighbors, for that matter,” Cressey said.

Stronger Maine said the person who took the package has been fired.

The Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office said the man has been identified and will face criminal charges.

Cressey said she has not yet received reimbursement or a replacement for the stolen shoes.
