National Council of Negro Women (NCNW), Greater Huntsville Area Section Partners with Colgate Bright Smiles, Bright Futures to Serve Athens and Decatur Boys & Girls Clubs
The National Council of Negro Women (NCNW), Greater Huntsville Area Section, recently partnered with Ms. Jamesa Fletcher, Program Director of the Athens Boys & Girls Club to bring the Colgate’s Bright Smiles, Bright Futures (BSBF) Dental Bus initiative to youth at the Athens Boys & Girls Clubs and from the Boys and Girls Club in Decatur.
The initiative brought oral health education, dental screenings and resources to the youth. Dr. Simpson from Making Smiles Orthodontics of Madison, AL and Dr. Pascal, General Dentistry were the local dental providers who volunteered their time to conduct dental screenings for all the youth visiting the dental bus.
The collaborative effort focused on empowering children with the knowledge and tools they need to maintain healthy smiles and build lifelong dental habits. NCNW members actively engaged with students, helping them understand the importance of proper brushing techniques, regular dental care, and how oral health contributes to overall well-being.
Through interactive discussions and hands-on demonstrations, members emphasized that a healthy smile is more than just appearance; it supports confidence, self-esteem, and long-term health.
Each child received educational materials and dental care kits which included three toothbrushes, sample toothpaste, and dental activity cards to remind youth about brushing, and how to care for their teeth. to reinforce the lessons learned and encourage continued healthy practices at home.
The partnership reflects NCNW’s ongoing commitment to uplifting communities through education, service, and advocacy. By working alongside Colgate’s Bright Smiles, Bright Futures program, the Greater Huntsville Area Section continues to invest in the health and future of the next generation.
Together, they are not just promoting bright smiles, they are building brighter futures across North Alabama.
