According to a report from Yahoo Finance, stock futures experienced a significant drop as the new trading week began, reflecting investor unease over geopolitical developments.

Futures linked to the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell approximately 0.8 percent. Contracts for the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq 100 also declined, each moving lower by around 0.7 percent.

The market movement followed a reported increase in tensions involving the United States and Iran. The current President of the United States stated on a social media platform that a vessel from Iran was intercepted by U.S. naval forces. He indicated that after the crew did not comply, a U.S. Navy ship disabled the vessel by striking its engine room and that U.S. Marines subsequently took custody of it.

In additional posts, the President issued a warning to Tehran, stating there would be no more leniency if U.S. demands were not met, with threats directed at Iranian energy and civilian infrastructure.

Oil prices moved higher in response. The U.S. benchmark for crude oil rose nearly 6.9 percent, trading just under ninety dollars per barrel. The global benchmark increased by a comparable amount, approaching ninety-five dollars, signaling market worries about potential supply disruptions.

Investors in the coming days are expected to focus on a series of upcoming corporate earnings reports. Several major companies are scheduled to disclose their results, providing a fresh gauge for markets that are contending with elevated stock valuations and heightened international risks.
