DETROIT ARSENAL, Mich. – The Detroit Arsenal recently hosted Career Enhancement Days, a three-day event that drew a remarkable turnout and highlighted the workforce’s strong commitment to professional development.
Attendees filled 646 seats in sessions that covered a wide array of diverse topics, from “A Short History of Cyclic Force Reductions Since 1945” to “Introduction to AI.” The sessions were designed to be intimate and engaging, with most capped at 25 students to encourage interaction and allow for walk-in participation.
Held March 3-5, Career Enhancement Days was organized by the U.S. Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command’s G1 directorate to foster professional learning and growth. Workforce development is a top priority for Brig. Gen. Beth A. Behn, TACOM commanding general.
Several organizations took part in the event. TACOM, Network Enterprise Technology Command (NETCOM), DEVCOM Ground Vehicle Systems Center, CPE Combat Logistics, CPE Ground (Combat Platforms), Army Contracting Command (ACC), Installation Management Command (IMCOM) and Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) all had attendees, reflecting a broad-based desire for career enrichment across the arsenal.
A number of courses were in high demand, with waitlists for every session. These included “Civilian Education System (CES),” “DAVRAP” and “Introduction to AI,” indicating a strong interest in career advancement, benefits and emerging technologies. The sessions “How to Read Your SF50,” “Leader Development – Are There Other Opportunities?,” “What Can A365 Do for You” and “What MWR Has to Offer You” were also popular. In response to this overwhelming interest, the TACOM G1 Career Development & Training Branch plans to offer more sessions on these topics in the future.
In addition to the training sessions, Career Enhancement Days provided valuable networking opportunities. The lobby of Building 270 was abuzz with activity, with display tables from TACOM G1, the Fitness Center, FMWR and RideShare providing information on a variety of services and resources available to the workforce. On the educational front, representatives from Baker College, Cleary University, Lawrence Technological University and Oakland University were also present, offering insights into continuing education opportunities.
The success of Career Enhancement Days underscores a vibrant culture of learning and professional growth at the Detroit Arsenal. The high level of engagement and the positive feedback from attendees have set a strong precedent for future events.
