Florida Lottery, TSC host Bright Futures scholarship event for Big Bend families

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Middle and high school students and their families gathered at Tallahassee State College Saturday to learn about scholarship opportunities that can help cover the cost of college.

The Florida Lottery partnered with TSC to host a Mega Florida Bright Futures Initiative event aimed at making college more affordable and improving access to scholarship information for families across the Big Bend.

“As we travel around the state, often we realize that a lot of folks don’t know about the Bright Futures scholarship,” said Florida Lottery Acting Secretary Reginald Dixon.

The event focused on students in grades eight through 10, a critical stage for planning academic paths and scholarship eligibility.

Tallahassee State College President Jim Murdaugh emphasized the importance of access to information for families navigating college costs.

“There’s a lot of options for students to help them afford college, and Bright Futures scholarships are an amazing opportunity,” Murdaugh said.

Representatives from the Florida Department of Education explained Bright Futures scholarship requirements, eligibility criteria and next steps for students and families.

A Bright Futures ambassador and state leaders also spoke at the event, while parents were offered a dedicated space to ask questions and receive one-on-one assistance.
