Good Sports: Fresno Grizzly Roldy Brito prepares for MLB All-Star Futures game

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — At second base, in center field and at the plate, Roldy Brito has been crushing it in his first full season with the Grizzlies.
The 19-year-old comes from Banao in the Dominican Republic and grew up in a family built on hard work.
Roldy’s dad climbed the minor-league ranks to play with the Phillies, and in just a few weeks, Roldy will play in the same city for the All-Star Futures Game in front of his family.
“The more I played, I started seeing it from a different point of view,” he said. “Something I could do to help my family, something I could do well in life.”
As a kid, he says he just played for fun but when he was 12, Roldy’s passion for the game grew, along with his talent.
In 72 games with Fresno, Brito has 58 runs, 97 hits, and 61 RBIs.
It’s enough to become one of the three low-A players named to the All-Star Futures roster.
Brito’s first game in Fresno was one of the first times he played in front of a crowd.
Now, he’ll get a taste of a packed Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia for All-Star week.
“It doesn’t matter what the critics say or what people say,” he said. “Even when they say you won’t grow, you just have to keep looking ahead. The work you put in only makes you better.”
