Joel Brennan talks affordability and transparency at public town hall | Wisconsin Politics

VILLAGE OF FRENCH ISLAND, Wis. (WXOW) – Democratic gubernatorial candidate Joel Brennan met with voters Monday evening during a public town hall in the Village of French Island as he continued campaigning ahead of next month’s primary election.

Roughly 25 people attended the event, where Brennan answered questions and outlined his campaign priorities, including affordability, access to healthcare, housing, education and voting rights.

For attendee Dan Short, those priorities align with what he’s looking for in Wisconsin’s next governor.

“Somebody who is not just in it for themselves or for some grand political scheme but somebody who’s actually interested in making life better for the average Wisconsin citizen and I think he’s got good plans for that,” Short said.

Brennan also addressed what he believes distinguishes him from the other Democratic candidates, pointing to transparency.

“I have tried to be as transparent as possible, I paid someone to do research into my background, lay out what are the positives, what are the negatives, every candidate does this, I’m the only one whose been transparent enough and willing to put it all on my website,” said Brennan.

Brennan also commented on the recent shakeup in the Democratic gubernatorial race following Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley’s return to the race after Lt. Gov. Sara Rodriguez ended her campaign. He said his campaign has remained consistent, emphasizing his executive experience and policy priorities.

Brennan also said his experience working in the government and in the nonprofit sector sets him up well to make progressive moves for Wisconsin and gives him an advantage to be effective no matter the majority of the state legislature.
