Local political trailblazers endorse Charles Booker for U.S. Senate

Booker gains key backing from Louisville leaders and a former Massachusetts governor as his Senate campaign picks up early momentum.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Charles Booker gained major local endorsements Friday as he campaigns for the U.S. Senate, with three prominent Louisville leaders throwing their support behind the Democratic candidate.
Louisville Metro Council Members Tammy Hawkins and Shameka Parrish-Wright, along with former Council Member Jecorey Arthur, endorsed Booker in his bid for the Senate.
The endorsements reflect the momentum Booker’s campaign has gained since launching in December 2025.
“I’m humbled and honored to have the support of these leaders I so deeply respect,” Booker said. “I know all politics is local, and our fight for democracy is only as strong as our coalitions right in our neighborhoods. Having the endorsement of three trailblazers in local politics here in my home city means more than I can say.”
Booker is leading in the Democratic primary and is polling within single digits of the Republican frontrunner, signaling how competitive the 2026 Senate race has become since he entered.
Booker has also been endorsed by former Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick.
Patrick called Booker “exactly what Kentucky and what America needs in the United States Senate,” and “one of the most exciting candidates on the national scene today.”
The early support comes from leaders who have each broken barriers in their own paths. Patrick was the first Black governor of Massachusetts. Hawkins is the first Black woman elected as Majority Caucus Chair of Metro Council. Arthur was the youngest person ever elected to the Council. Parrish-Wright is currently running to be Louisville’s first Black mayor.
