The April CPI data showed a 3.8% annual increase, which was higher than what economists had predicted. This key inflation measure tracks the average change in prices consumers pay for goods and services.

The persistent inflation reduces the likelihood that the Federal Reserve will lower interest rates. Extended periods of higher borrowing costs tend to weigh on growth-oriented sectors such as technology and software, as they diminish the present value of future earnings.
