What are the latest changes to Your Texas Benefits? Extension and additional SNAP payments for August 2026
Thousands of Texas SNAP recipients affected by July’s severe storms and flooding have been given extra time to request replacement food benefits.
The Texas Health and Human Services Commission received federal approval to extend the application deadline until August 12, 2026, after previously setting an earlier cutoff.

The assistance isn’t a general bonus or additional August SNAP payment for every household using Your Texas Benefits. Instead, it replaces SNAP food that eligible recipients lost or had destroyed because of the July flooding.
Approved replacement benefits should be loaded onto recipients’ Lone Star Cards within two business days after HHSC receives the request.
Who can get the additional SNAP benefits?
The extension covers SNAP households affected by flooding in Bandera, Blanco, Frio, Gillespie, Kendall, Kerr, Medina, Uvalde and Val Verde counties.
Texas also secured federal approval to add Sutton and Zavala counties, expanding the program to 11 counties.
“Texas will provide all available resources to help families recover from recent severe weather and severe flooding across our state,” Gov. Greg Abbott said.
“Through this expansion of SNAP replacement benefits, we will ensure that affected Texans across Central and South Texas have access to the essential food support they need to recover and rebuild.”
How do you request replacement benefits?
Recipients need to make a request rather than waiting for an automatic payment.
HHSC says affected households should visit a local HHSC office. Locations can be found through YourTexasBenefits.com by selecting “Find an Office.”
People unable to visit an office because of age, disability or distance can complete Form H1855 and submit it to HHSC by mail or fax.
The important deadline is August 12. This isn’t a statewide extra SNAP payment for August, but eligible flood victims could receive replacement funds on top of their normal benefits to compensate for food they already lost.
