What’s next for Vermont? Meet the reporters covering politics, elections and health care

State government can be difficult to follow. Major policy decisions take shape through legislative debates, agency actions, elections and negotiations that often happen far from public view.

On Thursday, September 10, VTDigger is bringing the journalists who follow those decisions to Manchester for a candid conversation about what they’re seeing, what they’ll be watching this fall and how their reporting helps Vermonters understand how consequential decisions are made.

The panel will be moderated by Editor-in-Chief Sue Allen and feature Senior Editor Ethan Weinstein, Health Care Reporter Olivia Gieger and State Government & Politics Reporter Shaun Robinson.

The reporters will discuss the November election, state politics and the forces shaping Vermont’s health care system. They’ll also pull back the curtain on their work: how they develop sources, scrutinize public officials’ claims, navigate complex policy debates and uncover information the public needs to know.

Attendees will leave with a clearer understanding of the issues and decisions VTDigger’s reporters are following, how those decisions could affect Vermont communities and what it takes to bring readers accurate, independent reporting from the Statehouse and beyond.

VTDigger’s new CEO, Brendan Kinney, will open the evening, share how the organization is working to bring more reporting to more Vermont communities and offer a look at what’s ahead for the newsroom.

When: Thursday, September 10, 2026, from 5–7 p.m.
Where: Manchester Community Library, 138 Cemetery Ave., Manchester Center
Admission: Free and open to the public; registration is required.

Doors open at 5 p.m. The program will begin at 5:30 p.m. Hors d’oeuvres will be provided, with beverages available by donation. The venue is wheelchair accessible, and onsite parking is available.
