Markets extend losing streak as Nifty clings to 24,000

Indian equities remained under pressure for a seventh straight session on Wednesday, with weak breadth and continued selling in IT, capital goods and defence stocks weighing on sentiment. The Sensex fell 326 points, while the Nifty managed to stay above 24,000. Despite the sell-off, both FIIs and DIIs ended the session as net buyers.

The Nifty managed to hold the 24,000 mark, but market breadth remained weak, with 34 Nifty stocks closing lower and the advance-decline ratio at 1:2. Information technology (IT), capital goods and defence stocks remained under pressure, while financials relatively outperformed.
